What is CJ's Pick Ten (Introduction)
Do you have an interest in the NASCAR Nextel Cup series? If you do, then
this 2007 Pick 10 contest/site is just for you!
What is CJ's Pick 10? In CJ's Pick 10, you assume the role of a racing
analyst. You will choose your favorite (or not so favorite) drivers who you
think will finish in the top 10 of each of the races of the 2007 NASCAR Nextel
Cup season. There are 38 scheduled races for the '07 season (36 regular races
plus the Budweiser Shootout & The All-Star Challenge presented by Nextel.)
Based on your picks and the drivers finishing position, you will receive
points. The overall goal is to win the Championship.
I developed the Pick Ten in 1991. Why pick ten? The reason for picking ten
drivers instead of six as in other categories is numbers. In NASCAR, almost
every race has 43 starters. Unlike many other racing events where the pole
winner gets a tremendous advantage, teams that start at the back of the field
have as great a chance for a top ten finish as the pole winner. With more drivers and teams to choose
from, it makes it more competitive (and FUN!) to pick the top ten.
Anybody can play: spouses, children, parents, grandparents, friends and
enemies are encouraged to make picks. All you have to do is submit a driver
line-up. We can have as many players as wish to play (I hope). You can start at
any point of the season.
Driver Position Submission
Please use the entry form, it allows me to get the
results out much faster. All analysts are asked to submit drivers names weekly
in the order you think they will finish. Also include the name of a driver you
think will start in the front row in the following race. If picks are sent via
email, please enter the drivers car number. Otherwise, be sure that each name
submitted identifies each driver uniquely (ex. last name/first).
Picks can be submitted any time up until race time. Submission times will be
determined by the time the entry is received. The form send entries via email. Picks will be
accepted via E-mail. Internet E-mail CJsPickTen@jacobsusa.com,
but must be received by race time. Please allow service time to connect/transfer
as I will be using the time it is received, not sent. Normally, I retrieve the
picks messages right after the green flag.
If you cannot make a submission for a particular race, your previous race
picks will be used. These picks can be carried over, but a
penalty will be assessed after two weeks (see scoring). Special arrangements can
be made, just ask. It is suggested that you make a new pick each week in your
quest for the Championship.
Points and Scoring
Points are awarded to players based on their picks and the actual drivers
finishing position in the races. Players who pick the correct driver to finish
in 1st would score the points for 1st.

If a player picks a driver that finishes in the top ten, but not in the
correct position, _67_ points are scored (half the lowest available points in
above scoring).
Making regular changes to your lineup is not only suggested, it is required to stay consistantly near the top of the leaderboard. If an analyst does not post a
new line-up for two consecutive races a descending scale will be used to
determine the 'penalty'. Use the following table to determine penalty %. After
6 weeks, the analyst will be removed. Analysts who make prior arrangements with
the can have their picks carry over for more than two weeks.

Some drivers have the same last name (e.g. Kenny, or Mike Wallace) or
first name (Jeff Gordon, and Jeff Burton); If you do not submit the complete
driver name or appropriate abbreviation in these cases, no points will be
scored, no exceptions! Sometimes, I may not have the most current drivers
updated on the entry form; use the car number of the driver. If their are
duplicates in your entry (ie. 1st and 9th), points will only be scored for the first occurrence of
the car number (ie. 1st), no points will be scored for the duplicate entries!
In NASCAR, competition is intense for each weeks qualifying position,
especially the front row. As a bonus in the pick ten, each analyst is asked to
pick one driver who they expect to start in the front row. If the driver starts
from the pole position, _88_ points will be scored; If the driver starts on the
outside pole, _44_ points will be scored.
If an analyst makes multiple picks for the same race, only the last
submission received will be used.
Special Races
There are two special races during the NASCAR Nextel Cup season. These two
races are non-points scoring for Nextel Cup, but allow for bonus points in the
pick ten because fewer drivers qualify. Read on for more information.
